Dear Valued Customer,
We at Inland Internet strive to provide the best online
experience for our customers. A number of years ago spam was becoming
an increasingly apparent problem. At that time there were no real
solutions available for dealing with it effectively. We took it upon
ourselves to take on the battle against spam for our customers, and
with a little innovation the Matlda Spam Blocking Configuration
Wizard was born. Matlda has served us very well, but as spammers
became more sophisticated they've also become much more
difficult to stop.
We've been aware of Matlda's weaknesses and have been evaluating other options. We are now happy to announce that we've partnered with Red Condor, winner of InfoWorld's "2009 Technology of the Year" award.
What does this mean for you, our customer? It means your life just got a little easier!
We'd like to take this opportunity to familiarize you with what you can expect when the change over occurs.
You won't have to do anything. Matlda will be disabled and will no longer play any part in the control and/or management of your spam filtering, white lists, and black lists.
Don't panic! Two of the coolest things we are gaining from implementing the Red Condor system are almost no false positives (i.e. mail you want that gets blocked) and the ability to view and/or download messages that have been blocked. This means you don't have to worry about preserving the white lists you've meticulously created because it's very unlikely email from those people will trigger a spam filter rule. In the unlikely event that they do get blocked you will still be able to see and download the message to your computer anyway. These blocked messages are held in what is called "Quarantine."
There is one exception to the rule that all blocked email will still be available for download. If a message sent to you is found to contain a virus it will be deleted from the server and you will not have the option of viewing or downloading it to your computer.
While the default settings will work for nearly everyone, anyone who wishes to have more control can! For example, by default messages with adult content will be quarantined (i.e. blocked from being downloaded to your computer but still available for viewing and download from Quarantine if desired). If a user decides that they'd prefer not to catch those messages in Quarantine they can go into their personal settings and change the "Adult" filter to "Block" instead of "Quarantine." This will make all filtered adult content messages unrecoverable in the same way messages containing a virus are. Alternately, a user can choose to receive adult content rather than having it quarantined. These settings are defined in your Personal Dashboard as "Policies." You can also decide to turn off all filtering and allow everything! The exception is that you will not be able to allow email containing viruses through. We have administratively set those to be blocked and unrecoverable on all accounts.
If all goes as planned this should be a painless transition. The number one thing to remember is - Don't panic! We are implementing this service to make spam management easier, more efficient, and more effective for you. We are confident you will not only love Red Condor, but that you'll find it very straightforward and easy to use.
So when can you expect this all to happen? We plan to make the cut over by 8:00am, Monday June 29, 2009. There will be no interruption in your services when this occurs and there will be no immediate perceptible differences. Many of you will notice however, that there is a marked decrease in the amount of spam you've been receiving shortly thereafter.
The first definitive indication you'll receive that Red Condor is managing your spam will be a "Daily Digest" email in your inbox that lists all of your quarantined messages. This is also where you'll find a link that will take you to your Personal Dashboard where you can view and / or release messages that have been quarantined and view or change your policies. You should be aware that if you do not receive a Daily Digest there has been no spam blocked for your address in the last 24 hours.
Please feel free to take the next few days to familiarize yourself with the new system! You can do so by following the links below:
